The Mat Mladin Development Team consisting of Mitchell Carr, Brayden Carr and Tom Roche had a very successful second round at Queensland Raceway. The three bikes had been prepared by MaxPower Performance Cycles and were all in spot on condition for the challenges of the weekend.
Mitchell Carr – Supersport – Kirk McCarthy Memorial Award Recipient
Middy was pleased to qualify well in this important double header round. He qualified on second row giving him a good opportunity off the start. On Saturday, he followed that up with seventh place in race 1 and eighth place in race 2.
On Sunday Middy gained 8th place in race 1. In the afternoon he had to start from the rear of the grid with three other riders, as he slept in after lunch and was late getting to pit lane. By the end of the first lap he was back in tenth place and finished in seventh place. He was determined to ride the wheels off the bike if he had to after such a disappointing start.
Middy is pleased to be up there with the more experienced riders and is gaining more confidence and better results with each round. Middy’s goal for the 2008 ASC was to finish in the top ten for Supersport and he has achieved this at most of the rounds.
Middy would also like to thank Ian Andrews for lending him an engine case for the last race.
Brayden Carr – Formula Extreme.
Brayden qualified second on the grid and was a bit disappointed after having had pole position at Winton. However on Saturday it was clear that the racing up front was going to be close and eventful with his main adversaries Chas Hern and Ben Henry. Brayden finished in 3rd place in race 1 and second place in race 2, putting him second overall on the day.
The Sunday was more successful after some minor setup changes and once again the racing was so close you could throw a blanket over the top three. The track conditions were difficult however lap times for the top three were all under previous lap record times.
Brayden finished 2nd in race 1 to Ben Henry after Chas Hern had a fall putting him out of contention for that race. In race 2 Brayden finished 1st after Ben Henry took a fall. These results gave him first place for Round 5 and he now has a 11.5 point lead in the series coming into round 6 at Symmonds Plains.
Tom Roche – Formula Extreme
Tom is seriously contending the C/D Grade division in the Formula Extreme Class. After a disappointing qualifying position, Tom took full advantage and had a clean sweep for the weekend winning the C/D grade in all four races.
Tom had missed the first round at Eastern Creek in this division as he competed in the first round in the Superstock class. He is now leading the C/D Grade division so this is an excellent achievement to make up the points in four of the five rounds.
Tom is also placing well in the overall point score and improving his lap times and finishing position at each round. He is looking forward to the Symmonds Plains round as he feels the challenging circuit will be suited to his riding style.
The bike handled really well and Tom would like to thank James from Zenodamper for the suspension work and Maxpower Performance Cycles for the performance of the bike.
Mitchell, Brayden and Tom would like to thank Greg from Racers Edge for his great support and mentoring over the weekend.
The Mat Mladin Imports Development Team would like to thank Mat Mladin Imports, Joe Rocket, TSA Metals, Maxpower Performance Cycles, Racers Edge, Procycles, Motul, RK Chains, Yoshimura, Galfer, Vortex, Pazzo Levers, Learning Systems Australia, Shark, Townsends Signs and RG Photography for their continued support and assistance.
Mitchell would like to personally thank the Kirk McCarthy Memorial Award sponsors Allen and Margaret McCarthy, Dunlop, Phil Tainton Racing, Monza Imports, Darred Body Works, Bandit Tyre Warmers and Jason Kelly from MA for his support.
The team would also like to thank Suzuki Australia for their great support throughout the ASC series.
